Here And There
Dir: Yasmin Gurreeboo & Valerie Berry
Role: Stage Manager and Technician
As social and cultural diversity continues to increase in Australia, more and more young Australians have migrant experiences. Telling migrants' stories and celebrating cultural differences is more important than ever before.
Based on the human library idea, Here and There uses live-streaming technology to transport the audience into the lives of artists from across the world, into their homes and places of belonging. Our performance brings together six stories, from six different and diverse artists —three Australians, as well as one each from Malaysia, India, and Singapore. It connects our local, Australian artists with an artist from their home country, in a live, immersive performance that bridges the gap between the places we call home.
Here and There made its premiere at the DreamBig Children’s Festival in May 2023.
Blake’s notes: Here and There was a really challenging and exciting project to work on, figuring our how to combine the precision of running a theatre show with the more fluid systems The Lab had in place for its usual live music or gallery displays was an exciting collaboration between myself and their technicians, nevermind the complexity of livestreaming in 3 performers from across the world and having them appear individually in the right places at the right time, while being able to see and hear the audience, I’m still surprised we pulled it off!
